Verhuizers / Movers

De verhuizers zijn gekomen en alweer gegaan. Ons hele hebben en houden uitgepakt binnen een dag. Ze waren dan ook wel met zijn 8-ten, dus ging het lekker vlot.

Het aanrecht in de keuken staat nog vol, en we hebben nog geen plek gevonden voor de tupperware en de bakblikken, maar dat gaat nog wel lukken hopen we. We hebben ook nog een berghok onder de trap in de keuken, waar op dit moment nog dozen met lakens(?) en dekens(?)staan, die gaan dus nog naar boven verhuizen, dan hebben we beneden ook weer wat meer ruimte.

Al met al is bijna alles uitgepakt maar moeten we nog een plekkie vinden. Het duurt effe voor je van een huis een thuis hebt gemaakt

The movers came, saw, conquered and left. Within a day they managed to unpack all our stuff and put most of it in the room we want it. OK the kitchen is still filled with pots. tupperware, backing tins etc. The computers are not connected yet and we have boxes with blankets and winter coats that probably we will stay unpacked and go straight into storage till the next move. And other stuff we have to find a spot for, but we will manage.

We have less space but need to buy some cabinets and other furniture to fill the spaces we can not fill at the moment. This sounds weird but we had to throw away stuff we could not fit in and have to buy new stuff that fits in.

The most important thing is: we are building a new home for our family and it takes time to transfer a house into a home but a good gardenset and a cool beer do a lot.

Druk druk druk / busy busy

Wat een drukte de afgelopen week. Nadat we te horen hadden gekregen dat de deal rond was hebben we gisteren eindelijk de sleutel gekregen van ons nieuwe stulpje en kunnen we gaan bedenken waar we al onze zooi laten en belangrijker of we alles er in krijgen. Op het ogenblik denk ik dat we aardig wat spul over houden vooral omdat we minder opslag ruimte hebben en meer kast ruimte. Sajee zal het meeste aan ruimte moeten inleveren want haar kamer is een stuk kleiner dan in HK.

Erwin en Anneke zijn ondertussen ook in Singapore aangekomen en zijn al aan het verhuizen geslagen en hebben hetzelfde probleem, waar laat ik al mijn spul.

De jongens hebben de eerste week op school erop zitten en ze komen alle drie lachend naar huis en dat is een goed teken. Jelle is al de eerste keer wezen spelen bij een klasgenootje en Lotte hangt regelmatig met een groep meiden in de school bieb. Volgende week gaat het echt van start en zal de huiswerk routine op gang moeten komen. Ook zullen we op zoek moeten naar Nederlands onderwijs voor Jelle en Lotte en sport clubs voor alle drie want ze worden lui.

Afgelopen woensdag onze "Singaporepas" opgehaald en konden we eindelijk de aanvraag voor Sajee opstarten. Vandaag kabel TV (Starhub) geregeld en ik dacht ook Internet en telefoon (bij Singtel) maar dat was toch niet helemaal waar. Het duurt twee weken om een telefoon aansluiting te activeren, geloof je dat nou, in Holland misschien in Australie zeker, maar in Azie?? In HK duurde het een dag en in Singapore 2 weken, dus afgezegd en morgen naar Starhub om te kijken of die sneller voor in ieder geval het internet zijn want twee weken zonder internet gaat natuurlijk niet.

Al met al kijken we echt uit naar ons nieuwe stekkie, het adres staat in de zijbalk. Dinsdag ochtend komen de verhuizers en hopelijk zitten we er rond donderdag in.

A busy week, we finally got the key of our new house and are thinking where to put what and we are afraid we also have to think about what to get rid of as we will not have enough storage space. The house in HK was bigger and had a couple of rooms we used for storage. In Singapore we have more closet space but less storage space so we have to see what happens.

Especially Sajee will have to do with less as here room is a lot smaller (the HK one was very big).

Anneke and Erwin have arrived and have moved into their new residence in a typical family Klijn way "on the go" and they have the same problems as us not enough space.

The kids are starting to settle in. After the first week Youri has been voted deputy class representative, Jelle has had his first play date and Lotte "hangs" with the other girls at the school library during lunch. Next week will be the real start and the homework will come again as well. We have to find an after school Dutch teacher for Lotte and Jelle and look for sport clubs for all three.

By the way Lotte and Jelle have musical orientation and can pick an instrument to try:

Lotte --> Trombone
Jelle --> Ukulele

What have we done to deserve this

We have started the appoval process for Sajee as we got our Singapore passes last Wednesday, so she should be here within the next 3 - 4 weeks. Today I arranged cable (Starhub) and I thought we take phone and internet from Singtel as they offer higher speed but as they take two weeks to "connect" the phone line this will not be the way forward. Two weeks OK in Holland maybe, in Australia for sure but in Asia, in Asia two weeks sounds like a year and in HK this would take a day but in Singapore two weeks. So I have to go back to Starhub tomorrow to see if they can get us internet faster.

All in all we are ready to move to our own spot, the address is in the sidebar. Tuesday morning the movers come and hopefully we will sleep in our own beds on Thursday.

een update

We hebben weer een drukke week achter de rug, met huizenjacht en Singaporeese ontdekkingstochten. We hebben al een tripje naar de dierentuin gedaan, we zijn verhuisd van een twee slaapkamer apartement naar een drie slaapkamer apartement (alles tijdelijk) en we hebben de hawkerstands met een bezoek vereerd.

Maar natuurlijk het belangrijkste nieuws is dat we een huis hebben gevonden. Zoals het er nu uitziet verhuizen we volgend weekend naar Namly Rise nr.18. We gaan ietsjes kleiner wonen dan in Hong Kong, dus het wordt een beetje uitzoeken hoe we het gaan doen met opslagruimte e.d..

Ook hebben ze hier in Singapore ook niet echt veel huizen met tuinen. We hebben wel een patio MET ventilator, je kunt hier dus heerlijk buiten zitten voor ontbijt of avondeten. We zijn gistermiddag ook naar de openingsmiddag van de nieuwe school van de kinderen geweest. Er was ook wat teleurstellend nieuws, Coffee moet wat langer in HK blijven omdat de bloedtest niet goed genoeg was.

It has been a busy first week in Singapore, looking for houses, taking a lot of taxis, moving from our small two bedroom appartment to the bigger three room appartment.

We went to Singapore Zoo, got a year pass had dinner at the hawker stands, got a temp car and picked our new car (Mitsubishi Grandis, will be delivered in two weeks), went to the open day from the school, Youri has 8 other Dutch students in there from the 20, Lotte and Jelle don't have any Dutchies in their class.

But most important we found a house, a nice house, spacious, 5 bedrooms, a nice patio and a "very small" garden. It looks like we will move in next Saturday the 15th. The address is Namly rise nr 18 just off Sixth Avenue Bukit Timah, in only a couple of minutes from the school.

We can pick up our employement passes next Tuesday and then we can bring Sajee to Singapore.

There was also some disappointing news, Coffee has to stay an extra couple of weeks in HK as the blood test was not good enough to ship here to Singapore and we really miss her.

aangekomen / arrived

We zijn in Singapore, afgelopen woensdag zijn we aangekomen en ik moet zeggen Linde had het goed geregeld. Er stond een ruim busje om ons naar het appartement te brengen en toen we aan het inchecken waren belden ze al op om te vragen hoe het ging etc.

Het appartement waar we nu zitten is een beetje oud en klein maar woendag gaan we naar een drie slaap kamer appartement. In dit apartement moet Youri in de woonkamer slapen omdat het derde bed niet in de slaapkamer past, maar het heeft een groot zwembad alles is vol te houden voor een korte tijd.

We zijn al een beetje aan het rond kijken naar huizen en hebben er al twee gezien waar we ons wel zien wonen voor de komende twee jaar, en dinsdag volgt de volgende ronde. De tijdelijke werkvergunning is rond en woensdag moeten we vinger afdrukken laten zetten, en maandag krijg ik mijn company credit card en wordt de bank rekening geopend, dan alleen nog de auto van de zaak en we zijn rond.

Omdat het appartment niet zo groot is hebben we al een paar keer buiten de deur gegeten, eigenlijk hebben we nog maar 1 keer gekookt, en de hawker stands hebben lekker spul, vanavond gaan we weer en dan maken we wat fotoos.

We have arrived in Singapore. We flew last Wednesday with Cathay and as if they knew they upgraded both Sandra and I to business class, which meant the kids had to stay in the back, for take off Sandra sat with Lotte and Jelle and decided that she wanted to stay there so Youri had a ball in the new business class seats, he said he had 'the best flight ever'.

Linde did a good job arranging everything, a bus was waiting for us and took us to the apartment where we will stay for a week until we move to a three bedroom apartment, this one is a bit small, Youri has to sleep on a bed in the living room as there was no space for a third bed in the kids bedroom. It has a big pool and it's OK for the short while we will be here.

We have started al the activities you need to do arriving in a new country.

• looking for houses, we saw 1 or 2 we like already and Tuesday we will see a couple more.
• Getting a bank account and credit cards, the company already applied for the corporate one and monday I will open our private bank account.
• The temporary work permit has been approved and Wednesday when we move to the new apartment we have to go to immigration for fingerprints etc, which by the way is also our 15 year anniversary (no party but gifts are welcome).
• Now just waiting for the company car and the kids can go to school.

As the apartment is a bit small we haven't cooked a lot, we actually ate in once and I must say dining out is even cheaper than in HK if you eat local and the hawker stands offer a great variety of food, we will go again tonight and take some pictures.
