Vanaf nu zijn wij off line. De computer is ingepakt en we zullen waarschijnlijk pas weer over 10 dagen een computer hebben.


We hopen dat we alle lieve vrienden die we in Australie hebben leren kennen gedag hebben gezegd. In de afgelopen dagen zijn er aardig wat tranen gelaten en tot maandag zullen er nog wel een paar volgen.

stormachtig afscheid

SEVERE weather is expected to hit large parts of inland and coastal NSW, including the already storm-battered Hunter region where a grounded cargo ship will be pounded again by heavy seas.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning. Areas worst-affected would be the NSW mid-north coast, the Hunter, Sydney, as well as the Illawarra and south coast regions.
An overnight downpour has already caused flooding in parts of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
The third major storm of this month for NSW will rock the bulk carrier Pasha Bulker, which remains stranded on a sandbar off Nobby's Beach in Newcastle since the first big storm hit on June 8.
More than 50 bulk carriers in waters beyond the Pasha Bulker off Newcastle were heading further out to sea today.
Newcastle Port Corporation spokesman Keith Powell said 52 vessels were heading away from the coast after being advised 50-knot winds and 7m seas were expected to develop tonight.
The latest storm will not be restricted to the coast, with Alpine areas above 1200m in the southern tablelands, south-west slopes and the ACT included in today's storm warnings.
Flood fears
Winds up to 125km/h in some coastal areas, as well as flash flooding, are expected later today.
The developing low pressure system off the NSW coast is expected to intensify and move closer to the coast.
Winds on the south coast, Illawarra, Sydney, Hunter, mid-north coast and alpine areas of the southern tablelands, southwest slopes and ACT are expected to average more than 65km/h. Peak wind gusts are expected to exceed 90km/h.
Locally along the coastal fringe, winds could average in excess of 90km/h, with gusts in excess of 125km/h.
Blizzard conditions are expected to develop this afternoon or evening in alpine areas of the southern tablelands, southwest slopes and the ACT above 1200m.
Heavy rainfall leading to flash-flooding is possible on the south coast, particularly in the far south.
The Bureau of Meteorology said while the rain was not expected to be as heavy over the next couple of days, wind speeds in some areas could approach 100km/h. "There will be gale-force winds about coastal parts especially Tuesday night and Wednesday in the south and central coast of NSW," BoM spokeswoman Deryn Griffiths said. "We're looking at not a large amount of rain compared to our last couple of events, but there will be rain along the coast and snow up on the ranges."
Warnings
Emergency services advised people to keep clear of fallen power lines, stay indoors away from windows and keep children indoors.
"With the recent heavy rain and damaging winds and the predicted worsening weather, there will be a greater risk to life and property,'' SES director-general Philip McNamara said.
"I urge people to prepare and take extreme care during storm conditions."
The National Parks and Wildlife Service urged people to consider postponing back-country travel.

Laatste week 2 / last week 2

Dit zijn echt de dagen van de laatste keer iets doen. Dit weekend had de een na laatste voetbal wedstrijd moeten worden en Youri had een fiets tocht met de Cub scouts. Beide gingen niet door vanwege de regen, en we hebben een best bekkie water gehad.


Zaterdag avond zijn we uit eten geweest met George, Johnny en Gurpreet en de vrouwen. Gurpreet had een management award gehad (van mij) en hij stelde voor om met z'n alle plus George uit eten te gaan. Naar een libanees restaurant in Parramatta "El Phoenician". Heerlijk gegeten, een aanrader, goede sfeer, heerlijk ontspannen en ook nog een buikdans act. We hadden de flessen wijn die we niet naar Hong Kong mee kunnen nemen dus aan het eind van de avond waren we redelijk vrolijk (behalve Sandra want die moest rijden).



Zondag met Youri naar Parramatta - St. George. Zijn laatste Rugby League wedstrijd en wat doet st. George, ze verliezen en staan nu laatste. Maar goed het was leuk.




Hopelijk kan ik volgende week zondag wel voetballen en afscheid nemen van de boys. Sas gaat van de week nog uit eten met de Nederlandse dames en naar "Pricilla Queen of the Desert" en ik wordt vrijdag door de collegaas uit gezwaaid en dan zijn we klaar voor de tocht.




These are the days of "the last time we do this" I was supposed to play my second last soccer match and Youri had his last Cub scout bike ride planned. Both were cancelled due to the rain we had in the last week and boy did it belt down.


Saturday evening we went out to dinner with Gurpreet, Johnny, George and the wifes. To a Lebanese restaurant "El Phoenician" in Church Street Parramatta a spot to go to. Good food, a nice atmosphere, Belly dancers a perfect place to go to with friends. We had a good time catching up and saying good bye. We brought some bottles of wine we can't take to Hong Kong so at the end of the evening we were full and jolly (except for Sandra, she had to drive).



Sunday Youri and I went to see the Parramatta - St. George game. Youries last NRL game and what did St. George do; they got humiliated by a weak Parramatta side, and they are now going for the wooden spoon. Still we had a good time.





I hope next week soccer game goes ahead so I can say good-bye to the boys. Sandra will take the Dutch girls to lunch next Friday and afterwards they go to "Prisilla Queen of the Desert". I will probably get a bit drunk with the guys from work as they want to see me off (what you have to do to keep them happy). After that we are ready for the big trip.

Laatste weekjes/ last weeks

We zijn alweer een week verder en ook een week dichterbij ons vertrek naar Hong Kong.
Ik ben al begonnen met afscheid nemen, en merk dat mij dat soms wel zwaar valt.
Allereerst natuurlijk afscheid van het huis.






Op dinsdag kwamen de verhuizers de boel inpakken en woensdag werd alles ingeladen.
Op vrijdag hebben we de sleutels ingeleverd en op zaterdag waren de nieuwe huurders al bezig om hun spulletjes erin te zetten.
Op zaterdag hebben we afscheid genomen van mijn autootje, die ga ik ook missen.
En natuurlijk moeten we de laatste week ook nog afscheid nemen van de nederlandse school,





het lekkere winkelen in Cherrybrook en Castle Towers, de scouts en gewoon Sydney (een van de mooiste steden ter wereld).



Our last week here has started, and it means it's a week closer to our departure for Hong Kong. I have started saying good-bye and sometimes it's harder than I thought.
First of all, ofcourse saying good-bye to the house.





On Tuesday the movers came to pack our stuff and on Wednesday they loaded everything in the container.
On Friday we gave back the keys to the real estate agent and on Saturday the new tenants were moving their stuff in.
On Saturday I had to say good-bye to my car, I'll miss it.

And in the coming week I have to say good-bye to the Dutch School,



the fun shopping in Cherrybrook and Castle Towers, the scouts and Sydney in general (one of the most beautiful cities in the world).

bridge climb

Als onderdeel van de afscheidsweken in Australie en de dingen die je gedaan moet hebben als je in Sydney bent hebben Youri en ik vandaag de brug beklommen.

Een hele onderneming die alles bij elkaar ongeveer 3.5 uur duurt.





Je loopt eerst een stuk onder de brug en dan via een aantal ladders naar de boog.






Hiervandaan loop je bovenop de boog naar de top, steekt over en gaat weer naar beneden. Een belevenis die je moet hebben gedaan. Woow.






As part of the final weeks in Australia and on the list of things to do when you are in Sydney, Youri and I climbed the bridge. An expedition on its own.






It takes about 3.5 hours. The climb starts under the bridge. You climb up a couple of ladders and then over the outside of the arc to the top.





The views are magnificent. Crossing at 1oo plus metres above the water and back down the other side. A experience not be missed Wooow.

Vakantie en afscheid van AIS/ summer break and saying goodbye to AIS

De vakantie is begonnen. Dit jaar betekent dat voor de kinderen een hele lange vakantie, want in Hong Kong begint die pas op 9 Juli. Dat betekent dat ze van 2 Juni tot 3 September vrij zijn. Nu ik dat zo zie staan, denk ik dat ik maar veel aktiviteiten moet gaan bedenken voor ze. Inmiddels hebben we een schema voor onze verhuizing. Op 7 juni krijgen we de sleutel van het apartement hier in Castle Hill, en op 12 en 13 Juni wordt ons boeltje ingepakt. Op 14 en 15 Juni komt het schoonmaak bedrijf om het huis picobello te maken. Dat is hier heel gewoon, want de makelaars zijn erop uit om je borg afhandig te maken. Daarna is het dus 10 dagen wachten totdat Tony z'n werk af heeft en vertrekken we 25 Juni naar Hong Kong. In Hong Kong zitten we de eerste tijd in een apartement in Kowloon, midden in de stad, misschien ook wel beter zo, is alles lekker dichtbij. Daar gaan we dan op 27 juni meteen weer beginnen met de huizen jacht. Maar dat is van latere zorg.

Allereerst hebben we natuurlijk de laatste schoolweek net achter de rug, en dat was nogal heftig. Je zou denken dat de kinderen het wel moeilijk zouden vinden om afscheid te nemen van hun vriendjes, maar ik vind het elke keer weer bijzonder om te zien hoe snel ze daar weer overheen stappen. Alhoewel ik wel moet zeggen dat de meisjes die een jaar of 14 zijn duidelijk meer moeite hadden met afscheid nemen van hun vriendinnen. Als je kinderen op een internationale school zitten is het verloop natuurlijk ook een stuk groter. Het waren ook eerder de moeders die erg emotioneel waren. We moesten tenslotte ook afscheid van elkaar nemen, en de afgelopen 2 en een half jaar hebben we lief en leed met elkaar gedeeld, omdat we geen van allen onze families en achterban dichtbij hebben. Het is wel raar dat het afscheid nu een stuk moeilijker was , dan toen we uit Nederland vertrokken. Maar ook dat is achteraf wel te beredeneren, zeker omdat je weet dat Nederland een plek is waar je ooit wel weer terugkomt, en de mensen die ik hier heb ontmoet zie ik waarschijnlijk nooit meer.

De dames waar ik het meest mee optrok zijn Annette, Betty en Angela. Angela is ongeveer een jaar geleden begonnen met breien, en wij werden dan ook regelmatig naar winkels en beurzen meegesleurd voor weer een bolltje wol of een nieuw patroontje. Uiteindelijk heeft ze dus voor ons drieen een sjaal gebreid als afscheids cadeau. Nu komt die hier op dit moment goed van pas, zeker 's morgens, dan kan het wel flink fris zijn buiten. Het huis is ook koud nu en ik ga regelmatig naar buiten op een beetje op te warmen, want overdag stijgt de temperatuur toch nog tot een graadje of 22, met zonnetje erbij, heerlijk.

The summer break has started. This year it means that the kids will have a very long break, as the summer holidays don't start until July 9th. They aren't going to school from June 1st until September 3rd. When I look at it now, I better find some activities for the children. By now we have made a little bit of a schedule for our move. We are getting the keys to the apartement in castle Hill on the 7th and on the 12th and 13th the movers will be coming in to take away our stuff. On the 14th and 15th.The cleaners are coming in to make the house spick and span for the returning of the keys on the 15th. Let's hope they will be satisfied, as I had already heard
that some of the real estate agents try to keep your bond. After that we will still have 10 days left for Tony to finish up his job and to leave for Hong Kong. We will be staying in an apartement in the middle of the city, on Kowloon side for the first couple of weeks. Maybe for the best, as I can find some fun activities for the children, and we will start with the house hunting on the 27 th of June.

Butr first I will talk about the last week of school, as that made quite an impression on me. You would think that the children would have some difficulties saying good-bye to their friends, but it amazes me how fast they get back in their routine. Although I must say, that the 14 year old girls were quite emotional when they said their good-byes. When you have got children in the international school the turnover is much bigger. The mothers were very emotional, too. We also had to say good-bye to our friends, and as we were each others best friends for the past 2 and a half year, it didn't make it easy. It is so strange, I felt it was harder to say good-bye now, than when we left The Netherlands, but on the other hand very understandable as well, there will always be a moment we will be going back to Holland, but it will probably be the last time I will ever see these ladies again.

My best friends here were Betty, Angela and Annette. About a year ago Angela had started knitting and during this time she has dragged us with her to fairs and shops to buy some wool or a new project sheet. As a good-bye gift she has knitted each of us a scarf. The scarf is very welcome at this moment, as the winter here has really started. The houses are cold inside and I go outside regularly to warm up in the sun. The temperature outside can climb up to 22 degrees Celsius and with a little sunshine it's just beautiful.
