Shanghai

Deze week moest ik voor het werk naar Shanghai en Sas besloot om een paar daagjes mee te gaan om Shanghai te bekijken en om wat kleren te laten maken.

Ondertussen zit zij alweer op het vliegtuig terug, met een uur vertraging, en moet ik nog tot morgenmiddag doorharken.

Dinsdag avond zijn we met z'n tweetjes wezen eten in het Grand Hyatt op de 91ste verdieping. Erg mooi uitzicht en het eten was ook niet verkeerd.

Sas vond Shanghai leuk maar het lijkt haar leuker om volgende keer mee te gaan naar eencstad waar ze wat meer mensen kent, Sydney of HK. Ik denk dat het eerder KL of Bangkok wordt.

This week I had to go to Shanghai for work and Sas decided that she wanted to tag along for a couple of days to see Shanghai and to have some clothes made.

In the mean time she is on her way back, with an hour delay, and I have to stay and work my butt of till tomorrow.

She went out on her own most of the time chauffeured around by a company driver. She went to some markets, temples, the Bund etc etc.

On Tuesday evening thetwo of us went out for dinner in the Grand Hyatt on the 91st floor of the second largest building in the world. Overlooking the river and the China pearl tower. Very impressivbe and the food was also not bad.

Sandra  said that Shanghai is nice but next time she rather goes somewhere where she knows a few more people like Sydney or Hong Kong. Mmmh I think we will have to look more for KL or Bangkok.

Ons nieuwe huis /Our new house

Het begint nu echt vorm te krijgen ons nieuwe hutje. Na twee weken van schuiven met meubels, troep weg gooien en meer nieuwe troep kopen begint het lijstje steeds korter te worden en kunnen we in de avondjes weer gaan zitten (of werken) en in de weekenden weer eens wat leuks gaan doen met zijn allen in plaats van te klussen.

Natuurlijk zal San zeggen dat er nog een heleboel dingen gedaan moeten worden, maar je moet altijd wat te wensen hebben. OK er zijn een paar dingen die nog geregeld moeten worden.

Zoals het slot van de WC beneden, de Singaporese vaklieden besloten dat er verkeerd om in te zetten en dus kan de deur niet dicht, laat staan op slot. Ik zeg altijd spannend, Sas zegt dat moet gemaakt worden.

Een ander detail is dat de warmwater ketels verkeerd zitten aangesloten. De kleine ketel zit op onze en de gemeenschappelijke badkamer en de grote zit op Lotte's, degene die we niet gebruiken. Ik zeg het is hier zo heet, warm water om te douchen heb je niet echt nodig, Sas zegt je raad het al.

Het laatste detail zijn de afvoergoten naast het huis, op een paar meter zitten geen roosters waardoor je in een twintig centimeter diepe goot kan vallen als je langs de zijkant van het huis loopt. Ik zeg dat is lekker makkelijk met schoonmaken, Sas zegt...

Maar alle gekheid op een stokje, het wordt echt gezellig bij ons. Als je zin en tijd hebt kom eens langs we hebben nog steeds genoeg bedden voor een flink aantal logees , maar gewoon een borreltje drinken kan ook altijd. Het adres en telefoon nummer staat in de zijbalk van de blog.



Slowly, slowly the house is transforming into a home. After a couple of weeks of living between boxes, putting together and repairing furniture, we went through the bed, fixing stuff, hanging pictures, cleaning the garden throwing away old stuff, buying even more new stuff we can now take some time off in the evening to rest (or work) and do some fun stuff over the weekends.

The time of DIY is over, my toolbox is filled with new tools I will not use for another two years and the glue, silicon etc. will turn solid and the next time we need it we have to buy new again.

OK, Sandra will not agree with all of this. There is still a substantial list of "things to do" she will say. I agree there are some details that might need some work but that we can arrange over time if at all.

 To give you some examples, the landlords Singarporean contractors made a couple of small errors and they forgot to do some little jobs:

For the common toilet downstairs they decided to put in the lock the wrong way around, now you can not really close the door let alone lock it. I say exciting, Sandra says needs to be fixed.

Upstairs they decided to connnect the warm water heaters to the wrong bath rooms. The large heater is connected to Lotte's small bathroom and the one person heater to the master and the common bathroom. This means that when Sandra washes her long luscious brown hair, the water will turn cold before she is done. I'm saying it is nice and refreshing as it is too hot in Singapore anyway you don't need hot water. You can imagine what Sandra says.

We have gutters in our garden that serve to guide the rainwater into the main rainwater drain along the side of the house these gutters have no covers which means you can step into a 20 cm deep, 15 cm wide trench. I'm saying this makes them easy to clean and you should really not come at the side of the house anyway. Sandra says ....

But all kidding aside it is a nice house, feel free to come by for a drink or a for a couple of days, we have plenty of beds to put you up. The new address is in the side bar of this blog.

goten / gutters

Gister hadden we de eerste echte regenbuien sinds we in het nieuwe huis zitten en ogenblikkelijk kwam het water via Sajees afvoer haar bad kamer in gestroomd.
Sandra zat op haar knieen in het water met een ontstopper om te kijken of ze de afvoer open kon krijgen en dat lukte.

Na afloop zijn we eens gaan kijken waar het vandaan komt en het blijkt dat de goten en afvoer verstopt zaten met planten resten blaadjes etc. Het meeste komt van het dak en dus de trap op om de goot uit te scheppen.

Eigenlijk had ik Youri de trap op moeten sturen maar ja je bent een beetje te soft papa.

Yesterday we had the first real singapore rain storm since we moved into the new house and immidiatly the water came rushing into Sajee's bathroom through the drain. Sandra saved the day with her plunger and afterwards we had a look where all this water comes from.

It turns out that the gutters on the roof aere so blocked that the water finds a way through the drain pipes into Sajees room instead of going into the sewer.

So I had to get up the ladder (Youri should have done it but you know dads are soft)v and dig out the gutters. hopefully this wil work.
