Sajee jarig / Sajees birthday

Op 4 juni was Sajee jarig. Op haar verjaardag hadden we haar meegenomen naar Newton Circus voor eten en daarna naar Sounds of the Sea op Sentosa (nu beter gepland). Op zondag waren we uitgenodigd in de Boedistische tempel om haar verjaardag the vieren.



Ik moet zeggen best wel indrukwekkend. Als je in een christelijke omgeving bent opgevoed is de soberheid en de eenvoud van de dienst erg "duidelijk" ik weet niet hoe ik het anders kan uitleggen. De kids vonden het ook indrukwekkend en na afloop van de ceremonie werden we uitgenodigd voor een lunch waarvoor iedereen iets gemaakt had, erg leuk.

On the fourth of June it was Sajee's birthday. We took her to Newton Circus for dinner and to the Sounds of the Sea at Sentosa.

On Sunday after a couple of hours sleep after the BBQ she invited us to come to the temple to celebrate her birthday with her. I must say I really enjoyed the service, it was simple, clear and very straight from the heart. The kids liked it as well, but it could also be because of the food and drinks that were served after the ceremony.

Jaarlijkse BBQ / annual BBQ

5 Juni hadden we onze jaarlijkse BBQ gehouden. Voor de derde keer hadden we een zootje vrienden uitgenodigd voor een avondje lekker snaaien onder het genot van een drankje of twee drie en om gewoon eens lekker thuis te hangen in plaats van naar een restaurant te gaan.

We hadden rond de 25 mensen en toevallig waren het deze keer alleen maar Nederlanders, wat nog niet eerder was voorgekomen. Dit jaar geen wilde dingen zoals zwarte stormen of gasflessen die de fik in vliegen maar gewoon een gezellige avond met natuurlijk te veel voer en te veel drank. Gelukkig konden we de volgende ochtend tot 9 uur uitslapen want we moesten naar de tempel voor Sajee's verjaardag.

On the 5th of June we organised our annual BBQ, for the third time we invited a bunch of friends, for an evening of nice food and a couple of drinks. Anneke and Erwin were the only ones that have made it to all three and we were a bit disappointed that nobody from HK bothered to come.

But this year was a good one, no stupid things like gas bottles catching fire or black rain storms but just a good evening with a lot of laughter and fun. Ofcourse there was to much food and to much booze, but we could sleep in (till 9) the next day so no problem (right).

Sentosa

Een paar zaterdagen geleden gingen we 's avonds naar Sentosa. Sentosa is een klein eiland voor de kust van Singapore waar ze een groot aantal "attracties" hebben gebouwd. We waren laat want het kwam op als poepen, maar met al die kleuren gaf het toch wat leuke fotoos. Vooral de Merlion (Zeemeermin/leeuw) ziet er in het donker toch best wel eng uit, en lijkt een beetje op de Wizard of Oz.

A couple of weeks ago we decided to go to Sentosa after dinner. Sentosa is a small island in front of the coast of Singapore where they have built a couple of resorts and a lot of attractions. With our planning skills we managed to come there when all of them just closed, but the lights made it look pretty good anyway. The Merlion (Mermaid/lion), Singapores symbol looks pretty scary in the dark and we thought it was inspired by the Wizard of Oz.
