Boracay day 1

Vanochtend om 05.30 ging de wekker, want om 06.30 komt de taxi die ons naar het vliegveld brengt. We gaan namelijk een weekje lekker op vakantie. Voordat we op de plaats van bestemming, Boracay in de Filipijnen zijn zal het rond 16.00 zijn maar ja je moet er wat voor over hebben.

Dus eerst een half uur met de taxi naar HK Airport, vandaar in een bijna lege vlucht met Cathay pacific naar Manila, het ontbijt bestond uit een corned beef and egg sandwich (niet eten, is geen goede combinatie). Na de koffers opgehaald te hebben een tochtje van 10 minuten naar Manila's binnenlands vliegveld. Na een tijdje wachten en een pizza stokbroodje bij Deli France (ja ook die franchise is in Azie), op een propeller vliegtuig met een stuk of twintig mensen voor een vlucht van 35 minuten naar Caticlan. Na de noodzakelijke papieren ingevuld te hebben om het eiland op te mogen, staat er een filipino van de Blue Mango Inn op ons te wachten. Hij stopt ons in een brommer taxi ( Jelle wil ook een brommer) en we rijden naar de haven voor de tocht van 15 minuten naar Boracay, aan de andere kant weer in een brommer taxi, en 10 minuten later staan we met een welkoms cocktail in ons hotel.

We hebben een Garden room, drie kamers met 6 bedden, geen uitzicht op zee, maar op een mooie tuin (lekker prive).

Boracay is een mix van locale mensen, filipijnse toeristen en buitenlanders, maar geen massa, het strand is wit, het water warm en de nachten zwoel en donker.

Na een wandeling langs het strand, lekker zwemmen in de zonsonderdang en diner onder de palmbomen, liggen we allemaal rond 20.00 uur in bed. De eerste “slopende” vakantie dag zit erop, morgen aan het ontbtijt maken we een plan voor de rest van de week.

This morning the alarm clock was set at 05.30 for a 06.30 taxi trip to HK international airport. The Moes family is on their way for a well deserved one week holiday. Before we reach our destination in the Philippines, it will be 16.00 but it will be worth it (we hope).

So after a 30 minute taxi ride to the airport, we arrived around 07.00 for the 09.10 flight with Cathay Pacific to Manila. Luckily the kids wanted breakfast at BurgerKing as the “corned beef scrambled egg sandwich” they served on board was not the best combination. Around 11.30 we landed and after we picked up the luggage, we took a 10 minute bus ride to Manila domestic. The tickets for our flight with Seair in a propeller plane (a Dornier 328) were pre booked and we waited in the departure hall enjoying a pizza stick from Deli France. The flight took 35 minutes and I have never seen a stewardess with such a short skirt as on this flight. The costume would cause immediate strikes and inferiority complexes within the KLM and Lufthansa working force.

A Pilipino wearing a Blue Mango Inn T-shirt was waiting for us at Caticlan airport and guided us into a moped taxi (Jelle wants one). He escorted us onto the Ferry and into another Broom-broom and 1 hour after we left the plane we were holding a mango welcome cocktail.

We have a garden bungalow, 3 rooms with 6 beds and overlooking the private garden, and I mean “private”.

Boracay is a mix of local people, Philippine tourists and foreigners, but in a relaxed no mass tourism here. The beach is white, the water clear and warm, the people nice and the night hot and dark, what more do you want.

We took a beach walk, swum at dusk and had diner on the beach under the palm trees around 20.00 everybody was dead tired and we went to bed, having a holiday is exhausting. Tomorrow at breakfast we will make a plan for the rest of the week.
